While this is theoretically possible, it is not recommended for forged bucket tooth mounts. This is because components produced by different manufacturing processes can exhibit significant differences in performance and service life, which can potentially lead to compatibility issues. The specific reasons are as follows:


Performance discrepancies: Forged teeth (including sockets) offer superior mechanical properties and wear resistance, as well as a longer service life (typically twice that of cast teeth). Although precision-cast teeth are lighter and cheaper, they have lower wear resistance, toughness and strength. They are prone to defects such as sand holes and may not be able to withstand the same loads as forged sockets.


Service life mismatch: Forged tooth holders have an extended service life, whereas precision-cast tips wear out more quickly. This necessitates frequent tip replacements, increasing maintenance costs, and results in poor economic efficiency as the tooth holders remain underutilised.


Operational risks: During excavation, inconsistent component hardness can lead to uneven wear or fractures, which compromise overall efficiency and safety.

II. There are two distinct manufacturing processes for precision casting and forging bucket teeth, with notable differences between them.


1. Process:

Precision casting: Molten metal is poured into a mould to create the desired shape. This method allows for intricate designs and is suitable for complex shapes.

Forging: This involves shaping metal by applying force and pressure using a die. This process typically results in stronger, more durable parts than casting.

2. Strength and durability

Precision casting: Cast bucket teeth may have internal defects such as air bubbles or impurities, which can weaken the structure and reduce the overall strength.

Forging: Forged bucket teeth are generally stronger and more durable due to the directional alignment of the metal grains, which provides better structural integrity.

3. Grain Structure:

Precision casting: The grain structure of cast bucket teeth is less uniform than that of forged teeth, which can lead to inconsistencies in strength and durability.

Forging: Forged bucket teeth have a refined grain structure that follows the shape of the part, resulting in increased strength and toughness.

III. What other types of bucket teeth are there?

Alloy steel teeth are among the most common types and offer significant advantages when working in challenging conditions. However, high-manganese steel teeth still hold a certain market share in specific machine models or scenarios. Whether they are 'most common' depends on the specific application scenario, but overall evidence indicates that alloy steel teeth are more prevalent.


Coal mining machine bucket teeth utilise wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy steel. The composition of this alloy steel is:

Carbon: 0.3–0.5%; silicon: 0.60–1.20%; manganese: 15–18%; phosphorus: <0.04%; sulphur: <0.04%; chromium: 2–4%; molybdenum: 0.20–0.30%; nickel: 0.1–0.3%; vanadium: 0.05–0.80%; iron: remainder. The combined content of manganese, nickel, chromium and vanadium ranges from 20 to 22%. This alloy steel exhibits excellent wear, corrosion, and impact resistance, thereby extending the service life of bucket teeth. The preparation method includes steps such as mixing the ingredients, smelting, sampling and adjusting, casting and forming, and quenching and tempering. Compared to existing technologies, this invention enhances the alloy steel's resistance to hydrogen corrosion and improves its heat resistance and mechanical properties. These include a tensile strength of 1726 MPa, a yield strength of 1222 MPa, an elongation of 13%, and an impact toughness of 25 J/cm².
