I. What is a Breaker Chisel?
A breaker chisel is a critical component connecting the breaker body to the hammer head. It is typically manufactured through multiple processes including drilling, turning, boring, and wire drawing.
Breaker chisels come in a wide variety of types and dimensions. Their form and structure vary based on brand, model, and shank size.
The chisel rod is a specialized tool (dedicated accessory) mounted on the breaker. It harnesses the impact energy generated by the breaker's piston, transferring this force through the rod to strike the target material, causing it to fracture and break. Functioning as an energy transmission medium, the chisel rod endures the piston's impact force, the reaction force from the broken material, and various physical stresses during operation. It is suitable for engineering applications in mining, construction, and similar fields.
I
The breaker chisel is a crucial component of a breaker hammer chisel. The breaker hammer chisel primarily uses the impact rod to drive the breaker chisels, thereby breaking rocks and other objects. Different breaking targets require different breaker chisels. Common breaker chisel types include the following three:
1. Tapered Quadrilateral: Tapered square chisels are a common type on the market. This design offers exceptional penetration capability by concentrating force at a single point for breaking. This generates powerful crushing force, breaking surfaces at a single point. Even hard-to-break materials like high-hardness rock and concrete can be easily crushed. Common models include SB43, SB81, and SB40.
2. Flat-shaped: Commonly referred to as flat-head chisels, these operate on the same principle as conical quadrilateral chisels—concentrating energy at a single point for crushing. However, their flat design enhances wear resistance, making them ideal for processing hard materials like high-hardness rock.
3. Flat-Head Shape: Flat-head chisels are typically used for secondary crushing—processing already broken material or medium-hard objects. Their flat design lacks strong penetration force, making them more akin to blunt instruments compared to the previous two types. While wear on the other two types occurs at the tip, flat-head bits experience wear along their entire length. They are also effective for crushing brittle and hard materials.
III. What are the models of breaker chisels?
Matching by diameter and tonnage
Common diameters (mm): 53, 68, 75, 100, 120, 135, 140, 150, 155, 165, 175, 185, 190.
Excavator matching principle: The breaker rod must match the breaker model and excavator tonnage (e.g., SK450-6, SK360-8). An oversized breaker rod can overload the hydraulic system, reduce impact frequency, and damage equipment.
IV. How to Extend Service Life?
1. Core Material:
Mainstream Material: 42CrMoA alloy steel (forged + normalized + quenched and tempered).
Premium Material: 30CrNiMoV special steel (quenched + deep cryogenic treatment), achieving tip hardness of HRC 56-58 and shank hardness of HRC 45-48, with 30% improved impact resistance.
2. Surface Treatment:
Chrome plating, tungsten carbide cladding, or laser cladding technology extends wear resistance by 50%.
Underwater operations require anti-corrosion coatings; conical cutting edge designs are used for frozen soil/hard chisel conditions.
3. Maintenance and Inspection Standards:
Regular Lubrication: Every 100-150 operating hours, apply lubricant to drill chisel pins and moving parts to prevent pin seizure.
Deformation Inspection: Grind and repair minor chisel deformations; replace severely deformed chisels immediately to avoid increased hydraulic system load.
Lifespan Monitoring: Under normal conditions, chisels lifespan is approximately 500-2000 hours. Shorter inspection cycles are required for hard rock operations.
Operating Conditions | Recommended Chisel | Reason |
Soft rock/Fast penetration | Straight-edge or soft rock chisel | Reduce impact from dry drilling, prevent chisel breakage |
High-abrasion rock | Super blunt-tip or forged chisel | Optimized geometry for wear resistance |
Concrete demolition | Flat chisel | Concentrated energy for breaking and wear resistance |
